Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is a condition where patches of skin become darker than the surrounding areas. This occurs due to an excess production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color. Various factors contribute to hyperpigmentation, including:

  • Sun Exposure: UV rays stimulate melanin production, leading to sunspots and uneven skin tone.
  • Hormonal Changes: Pregnancy, birth control pills, and hormonal fluctuations can cause melasma, a specific type of hyperpigmentation.
  • Inflammation and Injury: Acne, eczema, and injuries can trigger post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
